Fueling With Compressed Natural Gas

Advanced VTech provides compressed natural gas alternative fuel solutions in Buffalo Grove, IL. Compressed natural gas fuel can be used to fuel vehicles, primarily trucks, as a substitute for gasoline or diesel:
  • For vehicles that run on gasoline, the vehicle can be converted to burn only natural gas (dedicated system) or burn natural gas until the tank empties, and then the system automatically switches to gasoline (bi-fuel system) until the natural gas fuel is replenished.

What Is Compressed Natural Gas?

Compressed natural gas (CNG) is made by compressing natural gas to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. Consisting mostly of methane, CNG is odorless, colorless, and tasteless. It's drilled from domestic natural gas wells or is found in conjunction with crude oil production.

Compressed natural gas is a proven, combustible alternative fuel used in vehicles for decades:
  • Over 14 million natural gas vehicles are operating around the world
  • Natural gas (NG) as a fuel is gaining widespread adoption across the US due to significant fuel savings driven by plentiful domestic supply
  • NG has been proven to be safer than gasoline with significantly reduced emissions
CNG fuel conversions are available for most pick-ups, vans, SUVs, and trucks; there are some systems for sedans. Conversion to bi-fuel combustion enables vehicles to burn natural gas fuel at a significant savings v. gasoline. With a bi-fuel conversion, should your natural g as run out, your vehicle switches back to gasoline automatically until you re-fill your natural gas tank. Depending on fuel use, most fleet vehicle conversion investment pays for itself within 2 years. Tanks can be re-certified by Advanced VTech for use in your next vehicle – reducing the cost of future conversion.

CSA CNG Inspections

Advanced VTech is now offering - Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel system inspections.

These are also called high-pressure gaseous system inspections.

A properly maintained CNG fuel system requires periodic inspection that is focused on the high-pressure components.  This is required by the Department of Transportation in 49 CFR § 571.304 Standard No. 304. Compressed natural gas fuel container integrity; Subsection S7 Test requirements; Subsection S7.4 Labeling; Subsection (g) which states: “This container should be visually inspected after a motor vehicle accident or fire and at least every 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, for damage and deterioration.”  This requirement is for CNG cylinders and fuel systems that power natural gas vehicles.  Inspection is also required at the time of new tank installation or at any future reinstallation of unexpired tanks.  The professionals at Advanced VTech are properly trained and certified to provide this service.

David Hagopian of Advanced VTech is certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) as a Fuel System Inspector (Certificate U5816A).  The improved, expanded CSA program offers inspectors the highest level of certification to include the inspection of containers, valves, pressure relief devices (PRDs), the vent system, and other fuel system components of CNG powered vehicles.  The certification complies with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17024 standard for personnel certification programs.  CSA Standards is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Certifier Accreditation (Number 0779).  The Fuel System Inspector Certification was developed to meet the needs of the natural gas vehicle marketplace.
