DUAL-FUEL DIESEL CONVERSION
Best of Both Worlds
Diesel trucks can run on natural gas, a cleaner, greener and cheaper way to move freight. American Power Group (APG) innovative Dual Fuel technology - and complementary component systems - that deliver lower fuel costs for operators and no compromise on performance for drivers. And with the added benefit of significantly lower tailpipe CO2 and air quality emissions.
Reduced costs and emissions
Thanks to Dual-Fuel carbon emissions from HGVs and CVs are cut by as much as 25%, while operators save thousands of dollars a year for each vehicle. For example, in the Chicago area, with the cost differential between diesel ($2.55) and natural gas ($1.15), compression investment required, annual cost savings of almost $10,000 can be achieved on fuel costs alone. Example assumes 80,000 miles driven annually at 6 mpg.
Dual-Fuel technology has already been fitted to thousands of vehicles around the world in real-world, commercial applications.
The technology works by allowing heavy duty diesel engines to run primarily on natural gas, with diesel acting like a liquid spark plug. Minimal changes are required to the standard diesel power plant itself. High efficiency comes as standard with Dual-Fuel with trucks running on up to 65% natural gas.
Dual-Fuel engines feature a natural gas engine control unit (ECU) that is synchronized with the diesel electronic control module (ECM) to precisely control diesel, natural gas, and the air mixture to optimize combustion, performance, and emissions – reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG), particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx).
